I planted these in a pot in spring. The only thing that came up was leaves. Finally, at the end of October I got a couple of flowers. Nothing in my garden ever seems to bloom when it should or ever. 

My thumb must be more than black.Whatever it is, it's certainly not green.

Black and Yellow Garden Spider; Argiope aurantia (aka Writing Spider, Banana Spider, Corn Spider)

In plain sight in the Wisteria. To gain perspective on her size, I included the bottom shot. According to

Wikipedia, the male will construct a smaller web in the proximity of the female web and wait to go

courting. After mating, the female typically kills the male.

These spiders are not believed to be toxic to humans or aggressive.

A little something that popped on the back hill. I think next season, I am going to sow wildflower

seeds all over the hill. This year I wouldn't let my husband cut down the few we had and our neighbor

offered to let us use his weed eater and weedkiller. TOM told him 'no thanks'.
